Appointed Life Member on the 17 November 1976.
Mr Bert Arnott like many before him contributed generously to the Club in many ways.
In the darkest days of World War 2, Bert joined the Club with many positions vacant due to difficulty in filling the volunteers. He became President in 1947 through 1949 & 1952. Senior Vice President, 1950 through 1951 and Junior Vice President 1953 through 1954.
The Club being previously located on Casey Island, in the middle of town on the Broken River, the Club had to negotiate with three differing parties to ensure golf could be played, never knowing if there would be sufficient holes available or if the grass had been cut.
Times were difficult for the Club and Members alike. After the war, material was very scare so development was difficult, and materials would often appear unexpectedly to aid the cause.
Bert was ably supported by his wife, Katherine, who became the first person to drive off the First Tee on the Opening Day on Saturday April 30, 1949. Benalla Town Councillor, Cr Frank Harrison officially opened the Course at the current location.
