Colin A. McKENZIE

Appointed Life Member on the 15 March 1969.

Colin McKenzie was a man to know, for if you ever had the pleasure to meet him, it was an honour, for he was a very generous man indeed.

In his younger days in 1934, Colin, was the Australian Junior Doubles Tennis Champion with his playing partner Mr Neil Ennis.

Later, Colin was a great tennis, cricketer and golfer, so he was a natural sportsman. His prowess in sport is shown in the record books far and wide, as a player as well as presenting trophies to various sporting bodies.

Before and after World War 2, he was a regular player in Country Week Tennis, Cricket and Golf.

Colin came onto the Committee of the Benalla Golf Club in 1949 and played a highly active role in the running of the Club until 1968. From 1951 to 1960, 1967 through 1968, he was Captain of the Club, truly a remarkable effort.

Colin was also President of the North East District Golf Association for 1962 through 1964, becoming the first Life Member of the Association in 1965.

Colin contributed to the presentation of the Club by undertaking necessary maintenance works on the original Clubhouse.

Colin was recognised by the Club not only through Life Membership, but through the C.A.McKenzie Cup an annual Tournament Event.
