Hamilton (Tony) CLARKE

Appointed Life Member on the 21 February 1973.

Tony Clarke first came onto the Committee in 1952 through 1971.

Junior Vice President 1852 & 1959,Senior Vice President 1953 through 1954, 1958, 1967 through 1968. Captain 1969 through 1971.

He was President from 1955 through 1957.

During the war years, Tony served in the R.A.A.F.in the United Kingdom whilst frying over Europe and on his return to Australia, completed his articles in Law and joined his father in the law practice in Bemalla. In his younger days, Tony was a very good cricketer, tennis player and golfer with his name on the Club Champion Board at the Club.

Tony served the Club well and was instrumental in staging the spring tournament to raise funds for the Club. This spring tournament in turn became the Rose Festival (now the November Tournament) an played what a success story that has become.

Tony played a great part in pennant golf in the N.E.D.G.A. and Country Week Golf with his good friend Colin McKenzie. Tony was also President of NEDGA for 1969 through 1973, being granted Life Membership in 1985.

When the Benalla Golf Club initiated the application for a liquor licence for the old Clubhouse, Tony and his father were responsible for the paperwork, which was successful.
