Harold J. ARCHER

Appointed Life Member on the 8 March 1974.

Harold and his wife joined the Benalla Golf Club on the 24 May 1937.

He was a renowned expert on the rules of golf and advised others that reading the definitions first gave you a good knowledge of the game.

Harold was Club Champion in 1939.

Harold became President in 1946 and as Pro Tem President in 1947. Serving as Junior Vice President1951, 1956 through 1957.

He held the position of Captain 1947 & 1965, and Handicapper on a number of occasions and with Mr L.A. Sayers, helped with the layout of the course as it now appears and was a significant contributor to the construction of the first Clubhouse built in 1949.

The drinking fountain beside the Eighth Tee is in memory of Harold and his wife, Elvyn, a fitting reminder of their time with the Club.
