Laurie H. LEDGER

Appointed Life Member on the 17 November 1976.

Mr Laurie Ledger’s time on the Golf Committee was short but very fruitful.

He became Junior Vice President in 1960, Senior Vice President 1961 through 1962, President in 1963 through 1964 then serving as a Committee Member 1965 through 1966.

As early as 1953 it was mentioned that grass greens should be established. During 1960, the water mains were installed by member working bees with co-operation from Benalla Water Works Trust.

Laurie with his contacts plus his firm Ledger Mann & Co Stock and Station Agents, Bridge Street, with their office facilities of staff and phones spent considerable time communicating with agencies on course infrastructure development.

Mr Sam Berriman was invited by Laurie to inspect the course and grass greens during the development phase.

Laurie was also the donor of the renowned L.H.Ledger Four Ball event, a major fixture at the Benalla Golf club.
