Les E. GLOVER

Appointed Life Member on the 13 November 1985.

Les Glover greeted you in this manner, “gooday old Shiner!” with a smile and a good word.

If the Club had a man with personality to greet you, it had to be Les!

Les came on to the Committee as Junior Vice President in 1972 through 1973, Senior Vice President 1974 through 1978 and rose through the ranks to become President in 1979 through 1982, a term of four years.

In Les` time as President, one of the greatest achievements was the purchase of the 17 acres that French’s had a slaughter yard established on, immediately north of the course. This land now forms the site of the new Clubhouse and driving range. It was a worthy purchase.

At the end of the Les Glover reign as President, the Club lost an identity in the course curator, Mr A. (Speed) Bamford who retired after many years’ service.

Later Les took control of the club bar on a Wednesday for the benefit of the thirsty players and members.

After staying on the Committee after Presidency, Les retired at the end of the 1983 season.
