Miss Maie O’SHEA

Appointed Life Member on the 13 November 1985.

Miss Maie O’Shea commenced her golfing career on Casey Island which was a course to really learn how to play golf.

Whilst a member of the Associates, Maie was Captain, eleven times between 1936 and 1949, Senior Vice President in 1950 and President of the Associates in 1951, 1954 & 1956, serving a total of 30 years on the Associates Committee.

Maie was the Club Champion in 1937, winning the Ladies NEDGA title in 1933.

In 1958 Maie gave a trophy known to all associated and the Maie O’Shea Bowl which is recognised as a major event at the Benalla Golf Club.

Maie was a terrific organiser for the associates and was the press correspondent for many years. From a few notes, Maie would develop a good story for the Benalla Ensign newspaper.

During the early days of the Club, Maie was the President of the North East District Ladies Golf Association. (N.E.D.L.G.A.).

On the opening of the new course on Saturday 30 April, the associated had their official opening in the following Wednesday 4 May 1949.
