Appointed Life Member on the 11 November 1997.
Norman J Hogan joined the club in 1971 as a summer member ad pro-rata from Golden Vale Golf Club. It was January 9, 1975, that Norm was admitted as a full member of the BGC.
Season 1977 through 1978, Norm was appointed to the Committee, as well as Handicapper, plus Bar- Entrainment Committee. The Bar and Entertainment Committee kept the Club solvent whilst the Course and Greens Committee spent it!
Norm was elected to:
- Junior Vice President in 1980, 1983 through 1984, 1986
- Captain in 1981 through 1982.
- Senior Vice President 1985
- Treasurer 1987 through 1997.
Norm was Club Champion in 1979 and with John Harris won the L.H. Ledger 4 Ball in 1986. In 1990, with Mrs N. Hayes, he won the C.A.& W.H.Boyd 4 Ball Knockout and again in 1991 with Mrs J. Hogan.
Pennant golf played a big part with Norm and was in many winning teams of the Benalla Golf Club, which created great fellowship and team spirit.
What many members admired about John, was that he knew golf from experience and when he spoke, he did so with authority for he knew his subject well!
