William L. CHIDLOW

Appointed Life Member on 19 March 1941.

Mr Chidlow originally came from Western Australia and when he arrived in Benalla, he was the Manager of the National Bank in Nunn Street.

His family lived in the rear and upstairs of the banking chamber.

On his arrival in Benalla, he quickly took part in all civic functions and his services and knowledge was very quickly sought by the Golf and Bowls Clubs.

Before taking office in the Benalla Golf Club, he was only a member for one year when he came on to the Committee as Secretary- Treasurer, a combined office. This position he held for some years. During this period, the position was held for three years on a rotating basis.

Mr Chidlow’s service to the Club was made for his great contribution to finance through his knowledge of banking which helped the Club avoid many pitfalls.

Whilst in Benalla, Mr Chidlow was a great lawn bowler and subsequently became a Life Member of the Benalla Bowls Club.

On departing Benalla, he was transferred to Cobden, where he was instrumental in organising a bowls club where he was subsequently awarded Life Membership.

After leaving Cobden he moved to the Western District where his services to that community were similarly awarded.
